River Trail 15K - Postponed until Noon Saturday
Hello all,
The River Trail 15K will start Saturday at 12:00 PM at the Burns Park Soccer Complex.
I just ran the entire course without difficulty, however, there was significant puddled water at spots on the road and trail. Coupled with the forecast of lows in the mid 20s tonight, there is too great a likelihood of ice if we try to start at 9 AM.
The later starting time will also allow an easier drive to North Little Rock for those driving in from out of town.
Race day registration and packet pick-up will run from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Burns Park Soccer Complex.
The race will start at noon.
The Awards Ceremony, Chili Cook-off, and Grand Prix Awards will start at 2:30 PM in the Burns Park Hospitality House.
Hope to see you all there!

If the course isn't safe at noon tomorrow, that is still an option. If it is as clear as you and Aspel got the Valentine's Day 5K last year then we'll be good to go.Trash Talker Dad wrote:It should be postponed till a later date. If their is any ice, runners will be injured.
Meanwhile, use your best judgment: if you don't feel safe driving to North Little Rock tomorrow, Danny, then please stay in Russellville. We realize not everyone who is registered will be able to make the race but that is a possibility anytime you have a February race.

I have never seen a road race cancelled or one I was to run in....Its like football games or golf tournaments they might get delayed....ran many a race in ice and snow and hail....and temps well into the minus's in wind chills...so don't start now or we'll be postponing them for every simple little reason....
Silly Billy was so Nilly....Couldn't run the Nebo Hilly....lol

I agree with Tom, which for me this year is easy to say since I did not sign up to run the race this year. But Tom is correct, we have run in all kinds of conditions sometimes when I even knew better than to do it. But the show must go on. If you do come down to run, please be careful and have a safe trip (and a good run in the race).

Unfortunately, that was in a day and age before lawyers were running amok and hiding behind every bush........sidewinder wrote:I have never seen a road race cancelled or one I was to run in....Its like football games or golf tournaments they might get delayed....ran many a race in ice and snow and hail....and temps well into the minus's in wind chills...so don't start now or we'll be postponing them for every simple little reason....
Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.

I'm glad it turned out so well. Had the conditions not greatly improved between 9:30am (when I first saw the course) and noon, we would have had to either call it off or make a massive change. Had safety been an issue, we would have never pushed ahead. I'm so happy that it worked out.Trash Talker Dad wrote:Andrea & Brian:
I stand corrected, the weather was great, a great race and a great job well done. I think the new course is much better.
