2011 OKC Marathon

I am trying to determine an optimal pace for this year's OKC marathon. The weather notwithstanding, the elevation chart depicts a hill between miles 8 through 10 as well as miles 20 through 24. How do these hills compare to the hills we face here in Little Rock? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated

RON, Hunnicutt here I have done this race x 3 05 THRU O7 I know Marathon Boy has done it so he might disagree with me but this is a MUST DON'T PASS THIS ONE UP THERE is a slight hill around 7 and 8. 2 other hills but they are overpassess the last on is at MILE 20. FROM MILE 20 TO FINISH IS FLAT NO QUESTION LR Marathon has more hills and harder a person can get a pr on this course. and have a better time. they will have pretzels on the course don't pass them up. I would like to do this one again but if I do it will be next year. good luck and give us a report we will be looking forward from you.

ps. enjoy the run around the lake with music and campers as on lookers.

If I should do one now or think about doing one I may have some Neg. feed back as you say I'm just saying I might get laugh off the course . But I did hear someone say they are doing a 50 MILE RUN SAT. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE Pink............ Ron sorry about interferring with your post.. WE ALL want you and ALL RUNNERS FROM ARK TO DO WELL IN OKC. BEST I can tell there are ONLY 3 HILLS ON THIS COURSE and 2of them ARE OVER PASSES.

I tend to zone out and don't remember courses too well. Seems like there is a giant 20 foot high gorilla at the top of that first hill. It is early in the course and no problem at that point. Overall, the course is not as bad as LR. The main problem you will face is the WIND. I understand we got it easy last year but it was still a struggle. I remember at about mile 20 out on the lake you turned back toward town and the finish and I though I was thru fighting the wind. Bad mistake - seems no matter which way you ran there was always wind.

You can run a good time on this course if the wind is not really bad. My second fastest time was here and I did that after doing LR only 6 weeks earlier.

Ron, I will be at OKC too. I ran it back in 2008 and it is by far one of my favorites. It is just such a meaningful race and the only hill I really remember was extremely early in the race. I don't remember many after that. The year I ran it, it was actually pretty chilly but this year it's a week later than usual and that could make all the difference in the world. Starting at 6:30 definitely helps though. I ran in memory of someone who at died in the bombing and that made it that much more special. They have flags along the course with victim's names that died in the bombing. It really is a great race and I will continue running in it. See you there!

I should have waited untill others have posted I AGREE WITH JENNY AND THEN SOME I too ran in memory it is not a race but an EVENT. FOR THE RECORD YOU ARE GOING TO HURT but your paiin is only temp. the family of the VICTIM'S IS FOREVER. I LIKE TO BE ABLE TO read the names on the ploes but to high up And staying focus on what is at hand is HARD for me to do at the same time. Ron, you will love the 6:30 am start. I am sure we will ADD TO THIS STORY as more will post . RUN IN THEIR MEMORY SO WE WILL NOT FORGET.

P.S ENJOY THE pre race DINNER .ON THE PLAZA IF WEATHER PERMMIT..

Great races today by Jenny and Ron:

Ron's 4:34 was a huge PR by over 30 minutes I believe.

Jenny's 3:33 was a top 20 finish out of nearly 1,000 women.
