March of Dimes - Run Before They Can Walk 5K

Post by MarathonBoy »

The March of Dimes of Arkansas’ biggest fundraiser, the March for Babies, has added a 5K to their annual event. It will be held April 28 at 7:30 a.m. at the Clinton Presidential Library and will include a trip over the Clinton Bridge.

With the date for the March for Babies nation-wide already set, and with an established race already taking place across town, I pondered how to entice runners to be a part of our humble beginnings, and here is what I came up with – let’s call them the Top Nine Reasons to Run Before They Can Walk for the March of Dimes:

9) You are claustrophobic and have social anxiety in big crowds of runners.
8) You don’t like losing valuable seconds getting to the start in an un-chipped race.
7) You want to exponentially increase your chances of an age group award (we will have more awards than runners).
6) You have too many trophies and would rather have a neat refrigerator magnet as your “major award” (a shout out for you A Christmas Story fans).
5) While you love the suffering associated with any of the Big Dam Bridge 5Ks, you welcome a slightly lower, shorter, and more historically significant bridge.
4) You dig a furious fast downhill finish and net elevation drop, ala mini-Firecracker.
3) You tend to get lost on course and need directional signs every few hundred yards because the race director has obsessive compulsive disorder.
2) You don’t want long lines at your bounce house.
1) And the number one reason to Run Before they Can Walk is that if you run fast enough, you can still make it to the starting line of the Tour de Paul!

Bring the entire family! There will be a lot of fun activities.

This year’s event will also include a memorial garden. The garden will include trees that stand in honor of the children that are missed every day. The trees will be decorated by the families and display the importance these children still have in our lives. Every child deserves the best beginning they can get. March of Dimes wants to honor, remember, and support those who live each day without their children.

The March of Dimes mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. We carry out this mission through research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies’ lives.

Thank you from the March of Dimes - March for Babies/Race Committee

There will be a course preview run tomorrow/Sunday morning at 7:00 am. It will start between the southeast corner of the Clinton Library and northwest corner of the Heifer headquarters.

It should be a good time (there might be more runners than in the actual race  ) There will also be a few going on a bike ride afterwards. Then take a flying leap into the Arkansas River and call it a triathlon.

Also, it was discovered that "age on race day" was left off the online registration form. Fortunately, don't fret as we are using old-school finish line cards and my timer and results volunteers are the best in the business (directed over 50 races between them). They will be getting Name, Age, and Gender on the cards at the finish.
