Hey y'all. You might know my husband Bob Hayes as the guy who holds my stuff or from his playing guitar on the deck at Cajun's. He's walked in a lot of races, and went with me to every Grand Prix race in 2009, the year I was iron.
So. Bob has Alzheimer's. We've known for sure for about 2 years.
It's hard for me to go to a race and take Bob unless I have someone to make sure he's okay. At the Cap City Classic, a friend from the LR Marathon group who is an Alzheimer's caregiver hung out with him. Bob still stays home alone some, but he goes to adult daycare at the VA or has a caregiver at home for part of most days I work..
A running friend is hanging out with Bob at the Rock Run while I run. He doesn't know he has Alzheimer's. He just needs reassurance that I'm there (but I'm running right now!), and a little direction. He'll probably like setting up his chair with the spectators along the finish line. The more people who drop by to talk to him, the easier it will make his time pass.
Help me if you can. Say hi. Ask him if he's playing his guitar any. He plays with friends once a week, and it's amazing! Talk to him about anything. He's had to understand sometimes, but WOW! is always a good response.
Thanks a bunch,
Karen Hayes

I signed up for the 401K, but I don't know if I can finish.
