Arkansas Road Runners Club of America announces the White River 4 Mile Classic

August 1, 2013

After a month and a half summer hiatus, the Grand Prix Series starts back up with the 35th running of the White River 4 Mile Classic in Batesville, AR on August 3, 2013. The race starts at 7:30 am and winds through commercial and residential areas of Batesville. An early start of 7:15 am is available for walkers and slower runners. Hills and heat are in store for the runners; to help with the heat many local residents turn on their sprinklers and aim them at the street.

The White River 4 Mile Classic is a Grand Prix State Championship which means that up to 30 points can be earned in overall and age group categories. This is the 12th race out of 20 of the 2013 Series which draws runners from all over the state. The race awards ceremony will follow the race at Batesville’s City Hall. There is a $350 prize for male and/or female runners if the race records are broken. The male record from 2011 was Daniel Kirwa’s 19:45.07. Leah Thorvilson set the female record in 2009 with her 22:50.16 finish.

Online registration is available until 7:30 am, Thursday, August 2. Race day registration is available as well at a higher price. Details are available at http://www.wrroadrunners.org/4mileclas.htm.

The general public and media are always welcome at Arkansas Grand Prix races.

Reminder to Grand Prix runners: run the regular start time of 7:30 am. Do not take the early start. You risk losing GP points or being disqualified altogether.

Let me know if you have any questions.
