I would think folks would enjoy a race with a unique format of splitting up genders and age groups. Most races are done exactly the same. Nice idea Tom for keeping this race unique and interesting. :hat

There maybe an exception or 2...but only if you scored in the overall in the grand prix....that puts most of us out......However, I wonder which section will win or be faster.....Masters or Open in both sexes.....now we need Mills and the betting to begin.....lol

Stabler's backup was the kicker named Geroge Blanda who was one of the last straight-on kickers and who played until he was almost 50. Stabler threw to a guy named Blitnekoff (sp) who put so much stick-em on his hands that the NFL eventually had to out law the practice. Plus Blitnekoff wore an old box-style helment that was different from the rest of the team. Ah yes - the good ole days. :cowbell:

Was Blanda still around back then?? I remember him coming in to relieve Daryl Lamonica back in the 70's. If he played with Stabler it wasn't long..

I remember all those guys too, but I think it wasn't Fred Bilitnikof who used the "stick-em". A later Raiders defensive back, Lester Hays, was noted for his heavy use of "stick-em" that helped him make several interceptions.
Blanda was a starter as QB for years and did the kicking. When he got older, he was a backup QB and the regular kicker. I remember one game where Oakland had a huge lead and Blanda entered as QB near the end. He was in his 40s at the time and still he threw a TD pass. An ageless wonder. :bow

I may have erred. It may have been Lamonica that Blanda backed up. I know he was close to 50 when he finally retired. I also remember the old Tank McNamara comic strip that had a character that was obviously based on Blanda. Good stuff if you are old enough to remember.

As for Lester Hayes, he may have used the stick em also but I seem to remember Blitenkoff having gobs of the stuff on his socks on the inside of both legs. Couldn't have dropped a ball in a hurricane (or a Clydesdale/Sidewinder "coaching" session)

As someone pointed out to me last fall, I may have been the last straight-on kicker for the Bears.
