River Trail 15K - weather update

If there are any changes to the starting time of the River Trail 15K tomorrow I will post them here. I will be checking out the course late this afternoon and again in the morning to make sure it is safe to run on.
I am hopeful that the race will start as planned, but if we have to postpone the start for several hours in order to ensure a safe route for runners, we will. If we have to reschedule the race for another date to ensure a safe route for runners, we will. All registered runners will receive an email if there are any changes.
In any case, the Chili Cook-off and Grand Prix Awards Ceremony will go on as scheduled at the Burns Park Hospitality House.
So plan on coming out to Burns Park one way or the other. I really think we will be able to run tomorrow. But, if it's too slick to have a race, we'll still have a party.

A really good race director would be out there blowing the snow off the course

That would be a really good civic project for Arkansas Running Klub since it's in your own backyard!

Just a thought, but would anyone consider either postponing the awards for so many of us around the rest of the state who are snowed/iced in from today, as well as this week's earlier blizzard? I was so excited about going, since this will probably be the only time I will post a fifth place finish for the year!! Ha!

It's bad enough in Hot Springs that I doubt many of our people will be able to make race and making it to the awards will be hard to predict.

Hello all,
The River Trail 15K will start Saturday at 12:00 PM at the Burns Park Soccer Complex.
I just ran the entire course without difficulty, however, there was significant puddled water at spots on the road and trail. Coupled with the forecast of lows in the mid 20s tonight, there is too great a likelihood of ice if we try to start at 9 AM.
The later starting time will also allow an easier drive to North Little Rock for those driving in from out of town.
Race day registration and packet pick-up will run from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Burns Park Soccer Complex.
The race will start at noon.
The Awards Ceremony, Chili Cook-off, and Grand Prix Awards will start at 2:30 PM in the Burns Park Hospitality House.
Hope to see you all there!

You can go to
www.highwayconditions.com and click on Arkansas,,you can get a map of the major roads, or click on text report and it will give you more info. Everything down here says normal, and I know people are flying by the highway at the end of my road. Looks like it is worse in some places, but hopefully with some traffic those places will be clearer soon

Well, according to all the maps I've seen, I-40 is solid ice from Ft Smith until a little past Conway. Sad, I really wanted to come today!

I hope to make it...but I live on a street that is normally the last the clear. Looking out the window now, and it isn't looking good for me. :( Wouldn't be an issue but my mustang is rear wheel drive...it doesn't even fair well in the rain.
