So John and I are talking about resurfacing tracks and we look on the internet for photos. We see where Fountain Lake High School only have a 6 lane track and John says, "Well if you only have 6 lanes then you have to run two laps extra to make 2 miles because it's only 6 lanes." I said, "John the lanes have nothing to do with the distance of the track. Are you saying I have to run 10 laps to make 2 miles on a 6 lane track because it is two lanes short of a standard track?" John replies, "Yep of course!" I spent 20 minutes at the board drawing and showing him the math. He will not agree that I am right. Please try to explain it to him for me, please.
I said, "John, you can run all the extra laps you want but I'm stopping at 8 and I will win!

LOL John. I hope everyone knows you and I are like best friends and this is friendly banter but as a teacher, I have to get you to BELIEVE it is the way it is so on with the show.
John just told me a bunch of people have looked but no one will reply. Then he offered me up another example and here it is:
He said, "If a bottle of coke costs $2.00 and you only have 6 quarters, where are you gonna get the other two quarters?"
I wanted to tell him.....heck John I'd borrow them from you because you always have extra LIKE in track! I think you need to sign up for LRRC track meet and we need to make some bets. I'll have them block off two lanes and you and I can throw down dude!
I got a proposition for you John. Let's run a mile on a 6 lane track tonight and see who wins! I'll run 4 laps and you run 5 laps. Good Luck, buddy.
PS John I can't believe you are defending yourself in private messages. Come on the board and respond to me. You are trying your best to believe what you said but I know deep down in all of your laughing you really know you goofed up the math, right? LOL Come on big boy.....come on here and respond. LMBO
Worship the Circular Formula John:
400m X 8 = 3200m = 2 miles

So John....Jackrabbit.... Uof Ark's track is 9 lanes and some other tracks are 10 lanes (catering to the conferences).....so how many laps do we have to do to get a mile or 2 mile run in??

John,
Here is the way to think of the tracks. Take a measuring wheel around the track in lane one. You wil find out that lane one is 400 meters rather the track has 6,7,8,9, or ten lanes. Thus it takes four laps in lane one to run 1600 meters. If you run 4 laps in lane 2 it is a little further then 1600 meters, 3 laps is a little further then that and so on.
So tracks measurements are based upon how far it is around lane one. As a result all modern tracks are 4 laps for a mile (or metric mile) in lane one no matter how many more lanes are outside of that lane.
