Merry Christmas to everyone in the Arkansas running community! I wish you all a wonderful day with your families and safe journeys as you travel.
Every runner enjoys a wonderful gift: the gift of running. It’s something that can cannot be given to anyone else; you give it to yourself. This gift can mean different things for different people. For some it’s freedom and stress relief. For others it’s fitness and weight loss. For many it’s competition and camaraderie. And for everyone it’s love for yourself.
While you cannot give running to others, you can give in so many other ways.
Give your time and energy to motivate and train others
Volunteering at races and in your clubs
Lead training runs
Show your appreciation for others by nominating them for awards
The National Running Awards nomination deadline is 5:00 pm, December 31. Take the time today to nominate some worthy people in the Arkansas running community. Especially think about the journalism awards as well as all the other categories. We have so many that should be nominated. I will nominate some but I can only observe so much. Think about those in your clubs who volunteer or write the club newsletter. Think about the runners who have overcome challenges. Think about the wonderful club presidents who devote so much of their time to ensure club success. Thank about the runners who excel in race performances all year long.

Have a safe and happy New Year. I’ll see you all at the One Hour Track Run in Danville on January 26. That’s right, the 2014 Grand Prix is just about one month away from getting started. Good luck and good running!
