2017 Iron Runner update

Post by Eugene Atha »

Here are the longest active Iron Streaks after the Capitol City 10K. (If you find an error let me know so I can make the corrections.)

FEMALE
Pam McGill 67
Katherine Williams 33
Tia Stone 30
Rebecca Laymon 27
Elaine Seamon 27

MALE
Greg Milligan 88
Keith Knight 49
Donald Harrison 28

The old order has come to an end. The Master - Joe Milligan - ended his streak at a mere 250 (!) consecutive races with the Cabot Spring Fling; with injury ending my streak at Run the Line, Greg Milligan has taken over the longest active streak with 88. Below are the longest streaks since 2009.

Male
250 Joe Milligan
163 Eugene Atha
102 Jim Miller
88 Greg Milligan (current)
72 Mike Bonnette
69 John Miller

Female
67 Pam McGill (current)
42 Nicole Hobbs
36 Christy Brooks
33 Katherine Williams (current)
31 Carol DeLaney
30 Alise Atha (Steadman)
30 Tia Stone
27 Hazel Milligan
27 Rebecca Laymon (current)
27 Elaine Seamon (current)

With 12 races completed in the 2017 Grand Prix, there are 25 runners still going strong. Fifteen are women and 10 are men. The next three races, starting on September 2nd, will be a challenge to these runners because they are all in a row and include a 5K, a cross country 5K, and a 20K. Good luck and keep running!

Thanks Eugene for the update on the current streaks. It looks like all 25 potential Iron Runners made it through that tough stretch of races and have only 5 races left.

Now is the time to get in some extra mileage to prepare for the big one (Mid South Marathon) but don't over due it. Good luck the rest of the way and keep running!

Next Saturday is probably the biggest Grand Prix race of the year. The Midsouth Marathon in Wynne will be the 18th and toughest race of the year. With 25 runners still going strong for the Iron runner award, this race seems to always be the deciding factor in who actually succeeds or fails.

Just remember, it doesn’t matter how long it takes, you just have to finish.
Stick to your training this week and rest up for Saturday. Good luck to all the Iron runners and I’ll see you in Wynne to cheer you on!

Twenty-four potential Iron Runners runners remain after the Midsouth Marathon. Next up is the Spa 10K in Hot Springs on November 18th and then the CASA Half Marathon on December 9th.

For two potential Iron Runners, the SPA 10K will be their final race of 2017. Youth runners J'Lexa Hays and Wesley O'Connor have completed all the races up to this point and only need to complete this race to become Iron Runners.

Also, if current potential 2017 Iron Runner Greg Milligan completes the SPA 10K he will become the 4th runner to complete 100 consecutive Grand Prix Races.

Eighteen down and only two to go. Good luck to all the 2017 Iron Runners.
