Grand Prix VII marked Tom Aspel's second state title, he was also
the 1983 overall champion. Joe Whillock won the Master's division for his
fifth and final title. Kerri Shepherd won the women's overall title, while
Glenda Erwin won the first of her two Masters crowns. In 1988, David Samuel was appointed Arkansas RRCA State Representative by South Region Director Al Becken. Previous to this, Arkansas had not had a State Rep. Samuel's appointment marked greater involvement from the RRCA with the Arkansas Grand Prix and the scope of the Series was expanded to include the team competition among Arkansas RRCA Running Clubs for the following season. The Arkansas RRCA
also decided in 1988 to start the annual awards the following year. The 1988 Grand Prix consisted of five races:
