River Trail 15K - Feb 5, 2011 - Chili Cookoff Details
2011 marks the 8th running of the River Trail 15K and I think it will be the best one yet.
All race proceeds will benefit YOU!
Funds from the 2010 race paid for pizza and tech shirts at the Arkansas RRCA awards ceremony. Leftover change will be used to LOWER the entry fee for 2011.
$15 in advance, $20 day of race; $5 off for ages 18 and under.
Online Registration
Mail in entry form
Race Website
2011 will also mark the first ever 15K Chili Cookoff. Bring your crockpots and coleman stoves, and cook up the best recipe you know. The best bowl of chili could win the traveling trophy for your Arkansas RRCA running club!
Practice those recipes, because the "least best" chili takes home the toilet bowl:
Personally, I'm hoping to win that second trophy.

You may have competition for the second trophy. I made chili for deer camp one year that is so feared that the mere mention of my doing so again strikes fear into the hearts of all with memories of the event.
If we decide to enter this grand event please tell details of when - where - how to drop off our entries before the race since some of us will be traveling and need to allow extra time if pre-race delivery is required.

We can have as many pots as there are people if everyone wants to bring some. Clubs will be judged on both the quality of individual pots and the impressiveness of their collective spread.jmassingill wrote:ok, so how does this work?? One pot per club? How much do we need to bring? Will chili be our lunch for the awards? Do we need to bring crackers, bowls, spoons, etc or will there be some furnished. Just wanting to come prepared. Thanks,
Chili will be the lunch for the awards, no pizza this year.
The Arkansas RRCA will bring a bunch of bowls, spoons, napkins, crackers.
The Hospitality House will be open at 7:00 AM for anyone who wants to drop off a crockpot before the race.
There is also ample room outside the Hospitality House for anyone who has a portable camping stove or cauldron.

Well, the Hospitality House should be open by 7 AM.
The picture of the trophies above should provide proper motivation. Both the carrot and the stick. But there is one thing worse than the toilet bowl trophy and that is if you don't play at all. So bring on your best chili and show us what you got. If you bring the best, you win eternal accolades for your running club. For there could be 100 River Trail 15K Chili Cook-offs over the next century, but there can only be 1 inaugural winner! Who's it gonna be?
One item of clarification: Clubs can bring as many different pots and recipes of chili as they want. You don't need to only to have a single entry. The winning club will be chosen by the quality, quantity, diversity, originality, and of course, plating.
One other note: we'll have a couple jugs of water and cups there, but otherwise this cook-off is Bring Your Own Beverage. Plenty of room for coolers and what not in the H-House.

I think most people plan on doing the preparation at home and then keeping it warm in a crockpot at the hospitality house. Or you can have a camping stove going outside the hospitality house and use that.tswalth wrote:This may b a da ? but we do cook the chili at home?? Not on camping gear at hospitality house?? T
You can drop of your crockpots or whatever at the hospitality house prior to the race. We'll have some stationed there from 7 AM on.
