Date UPDATE: World's Highest Hill 5 miler......TEAM NEEDED
November 13th, 2010 at 9am The website will be updated shortly!
Are You Ready For an Adventure? (If you've run this race before....post your stories!)
I jogged this mountain back in July and it looks like a worthy challenge. It doesn't interfere with any GP races so who might want to go to this one?
This race is almost entirely uphill and is "Oklahoma's Ultimate Challenge". The race climbs 1,999 feet in five miles up the world's highest hill - Cavanal Hill in Poteau. Road is paved, two aid stations, t-shirts, age-group awards. Enjoy the beautiful peak foilage from the mountains of southeastern Oklahoma. $20 entry, children under 18 are free.
The scenery on the way up and at the top is breathtaking making this a run you will want to return to year after year. The start will be at the corner of Witteville and Hughes drive near the Poteau Primary School. Transportation will be provided to take runners back to the bottom of the hill.
The race begins at 9:00 a.m. Participants will be timed for 3 hours so we can encourage walkers and hikers to be a part of this challenge as well. There will be two fully stocked aid stations at mile 1.5 and mile 3. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 entrants subject to availability. If t-shirts are not available, the price of registration is only $15.00.
Course Records are:
Male: 32:38/Female: 38:56
Awards
King and Queen of the Hill Awards, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Overall male and female.
Standard age group awards, 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
Fastest team award to the team with the fastest three persons up the hill.
Team finishers award to the team that has the most finishers.

I ran this back in 2008 (er, trudged), and it was a wonderful race. Top notch, Tom Brennan and his folks do a great job organizing it. Very few post-race experiences have been as satisfying as relaxing on a boulder at the top and looking down on Poteau below, trying to pinpoint the tiny spot where the start line is.
