RRCA/Arkansas State Meeting of Running Clubs and Awards

State Rep David Meroney tells me the the Arkansas Long Distance Running Committee (LDRC) is currently evaluating options for the annual meeting of RRCA clubs in Arkansas. The annual RRCA awards are presented at the meeting and all RRCA clubs are invited to report their accomplishments from the following year and plans for the future. The meeting has been held in Hot Springs at the Arlington Resort and Hotel for 17 years. Last year it was held in Pine Bluff. One option is to use the Hot Springs Convention Center instead of the Arlington. David requested more use of this forum in his December blog. Well folks if you have an opinion on the best location for our annual state meeting please reply.

I would definitely like to see it back in Hot Springs. Nothing against Pine Bluff, but Hot Springs is one of the top tourist attractions in Arkansas. Maybe I am a dinosaur. But, I am also a big believer in tradition. Also, many runners run the 10k or even the 5k at Hot Springs, but not all runners, especially the young ones, can do a half marathon.

I love CASA but my vote for award location is Hot Springs. With CASA being a half marathon, it obviously takes longer to finish the race, then after awards and the drive back home, just takes up the whole entire day. Plus the Grand Prix kids don't have to run a half marathon so they would have to make a special trip to attend the awards ceremony. I do like the idea of the convention center instead of the Arlington though, since everyone is already at the convention center anyway.

"Lastly and most importantly, we decided to hold the 2016 Arkansas RRCA Meeting and Awards in Hot Springs following the Spa 10K. The exact time and location has not been set but it will not be in Arlington; we will likely be in the Hot Springs Convention Center but that has yet to be determined. I will make announcements closer to the date. Stay tuned."
