Today was day #2 of treadmill workouts. Mile repeats on Tuesday, so today I used another plan to combat the boredom. This may sound "Paddy-ish, Sidewinder-ish", but my PR on a treadmill is 23 miles. That was back in 2000 3 weeks before the Austin Marathon. Icy weekend in Conway necessitated the millwork. It's mind over matter.
So today I varied the pace and used the incline to mix it up. Did 8 miles total.7 miles of work. Speed ranged from 6:55 pace down to 6:27. Incline ranged from 1% to 4%. Every 2-3 minutes, I changed the speed and grade. This really made the time go by quickly. Many runners forget to use the incline/hills as a way to fight the boredom and to maximize the benefits of the treadmill.
Music is another key to surviving the mill. Today it was REM, Zeppelin, B 52's, Ramones, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Petty, Peter Tosh. Thoughts were drifting to LRHalf with Broadway Bridge and the southbound climb after mile 6 and again at 9 or 10.

My maximum on the treadmill was 15 miles. Was training for a marathon and there was Ice and snow on the ground. 10 miles for pace runs isn't too bad when it is very intense. Any thing over 1-1/2 hours becomes a problem for me. I think I asked them to put me on a suicide watch for that longer run. Music and a TV are a necessity on any distance on the treadmill.
